TAKE BACK the LOVE freebie, coupons & deals

_Hello Friends,
TAKE BACK THE LOVE and get ready to look your best this Valentine’s Day holiday. In order to keep you looking your best, here are some coupons and tips on products that are better for you. You don’t look your best with irritated skin or eyes. Artificial fragrances are the worst thing for your lungs and skin. If you read the back of any bottle of bathroom spray, it stated “ DO NOT INHALE”. What?! An inexpensive alternative is to add some baking soda to a glass jar to absorb odors. Add some apple or pumpkin pie spice or an essential oil to the baking soda to make rooms smell naturally pleasant. No more allergies or coughing due to the irritants in these fragrance products. Warning: If you have pet birds it is especially important to NOT use most artificially scented household products. The respiratory system of birds is very sensitive. Stick to natural room fresheners so that the WHOLE family- people & animals are healthy. Most scented candles suffer the same problem. Stick to soy based candles with essential oils for a safer room scent product. I periodically stock up at my local Big Lots store when available. I also love love love the Citruscent citrus air freshener found at Sally Beauty Supply. The small bottles lasts a long time to naturally eliminate the stinkiest of odors with only 1-2 sprays. Try these tips to save money as you will avoid doctor visits, over the counter allergy medicines and anti-itch creams for avoidable problems.

1. Free sample of Breathe Right strips ( 2 pack) and/or $1.50 off coupon
http://www.breatheright.com/offers.aspx

2. $1 off Simply Saline nasal spray.
$0.55 of Arm & Hammer baking soda
http://www.armandhammer.com/Resources/SavingsCenter.aspx

3. Kirk’s Original Coco castile soap pack of 3 bars for only $3.28 at Wal-mart. I just saw it a few weeks ago in Wal-mart Supercenter in little old Mebane, NC along with the regular conventional soaps. What an affordable way to enjoy a natural soap. I tried it and it is great for cleansing and moisturizing body and hair, as well as for a super soft lather for shaving. I kept a bar in the kitchen for hand washing and found it worked great on my dishes too. See link below for a picture so you know what to watch for in Wal-Mart.
http://www.amazon.com/Castile-Soap-Original-3pk-Ounces/

I still love my Dr. Bronner’s liquid and bar castile soaps, but Wal-mart does not sell it yet. This was a great find when I am not near Target, Lowes Foods or Harris Teeter. Anyone with a loved one with eczema or sensitive skin should try either Dr Bronner’s or this Kirk’s castile bar soap and use coconut oil (found in grocery section next to other cooking oils) as a skin moisturizer. Some of you may ask why the big deal about soap. Ivory (only 99.44% pure), Dial and Dove have been around a long time. But the artificial fragrance, the animal fat (from slaughterhouse waste), and/or the other little bit of artificial ingredients/preservatives in these products can be detrimental to those with sensitive skin or respiratory issues. Give it a try and enjoy healthier skin and hair.

Let’s look and feel our best this love month and show yourself some love. Show others love too as you share this information with them.
Take Back the Love this Month!

_  Hello Friends,
Most of you may know, but the USDA has replaced the old food pyramid idea for healthy eating with the MyPlate.gov (make half your plate fruit and vegetables). I just found a vegan version of the MyPlate for those either trying the vegan or vegetarian lifestyle, or are dairy intolerant or simply want more non-meat protein meal ideas. The Vegetarian Resource Group has a great printable color poster, a coloring page for the kids, and some tasty looking recipes with ingredients I have at home. I am excited to try the chickpea burgers recipe and others at home with the kids this weekend.
http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/

Here are some deals to make the MyPlate.gov or the My Vegan Plate work for you to loose weight and feel and look great.

-Renee (and Merline)

1. Aldi grocery store has a 3lb bag of yellow onions, for only $0.79. Durham, NC just opened an Aldi store last week not far from my job. Hurray for always great quality and low priced fruits and vegetables. This is a great time to stock up on yellow onions. Cut the onions into the style you most frequently use (diced, sliced, etc.), then store in either a freezer zipper bag or a Ziploc or Glad small plastic container with recycling code #5 on bottom; this indicates these products are made from polypropylene and not prone to problems with freezing. Thaw onions for use in a variety of dishes from soups to salsa and health uses such as honey/onion cough remedy and poultices. Thanks for the alert on this deal Merline!
2. Go to the website http://www.louana.com/ and sign up for Southern Fryers to receive a $0.50 off coupon for Lou Ana oils. I love the great price on the Lou Ana coconut oil. Not only is coconut oil great for hair and lips  and the perfect  moisturizer for those with eczema, it also is great for helping loose belly fat when you use it to cook foods. Saute  your favorite vegetables in onions, sea salt  and coconut oil for great flavor your whole family will enjoy.
  3. Checkout www.coupons.com  for some great printable coupons for real Whole Grain Healing foods:

$1 off any 2 Uncle Ben’s brown rice products
$1 off McCann’s Irish oatmeal product
$1 off Kashi bar
4. Printable coupons for Enjoy Life brand gluten-free foods. NOTE: This is a FaceBook coupon https://www.facebook.com/enjoylifefoods

_Hello Friends,
With this crazy fluctuating hot/cold weather and the return to school, is it any wonder that our kids keep coming home with coughs and congestion!  Staying up half the night with a coughing child is no picnic. If you, like me, dread having to give your child a conventional medicine filled with artificial colors, sweeteners or unpronounceable ingredients  in order to stop the coughing enough to get some rest, I have found some natural effective, tasty products you can find at stores like Walgreens or Harris Teeter. Zarbee’s and Similasan make great tasting children’s cough medicines with natural honeys, pronounceable ingredients and no fake stuff. Those that know me know I always taste EVERY medicine I give my children. These not only are effective natural products, but tasty too so there is no drama to get kids to take their medicine.
Coupled with fresh fruits and vegetables, no junk food, no junk drinks, plenty of hugs, kisses, water and rest, they will feel better and sleep better soon; this means you get to sleep too!

1. Free sample of Zarbee’s natural cough products. They send the sample for free but charge $1.99 for shipping. They include 3 $1 off coupons to offset the price of shipping so in the end you get a $1 coupon and a sample kit for free. See Walgreens deals below for more details on pricing. Find it in the children’s medicine section at Walgreens, Harris Teeter and some CVS, Wal-mart and Kroger stores.

_Hello Friends,
Great News! The Take Back Tour message is being spread in more languages. Check out the short feature article on page 3 on the Take Back 5 Minus 1 program in the January issue of the North American Health Unlimited Health newsletter in 5 languages!
http://www.nadhealthministries.org/article.php?id=28
In honor, I thought I would share some grocery deals and a simple , inexpensive recipe for how to incorporate more vegetables to meet and even exceed the 5 fruits & vegetables a day. Don’t forget the January Take Back 5 Minus 1 calendar is now available on www.thetakebacktour.com under the Brochures tab to help you track your activity and fruit/veggie intake.
Kale Chips [ thanks Malika B. for sharing]
1-2 pounds fresh kale
Olive oil or olive oil spray
Seasoning of your choice [ Italian style seasoning + sea salt or MSG free, reduced sodium seasoning salt]
  1. Wash fresh kale using white vinegar and water as a veggie wash. Pat or shake to dry. Cut the leaves off the large stems as much as possible. I tried using my hands and a knife and found that kitchen shears worked the best to keep the pieces large.
  2. Drizzle or spray with olive oil.
  3. Season to your taste. My new favorite is now 1 part Tony Chatcher’s Creole seasoning + 2 parts Italian seasoning ( sweet basil, rosemary, oregano, thyme, garlic powder); mix and shake on 1 side of the kale to season
  4. Bake at 200-300 degrees Fahrenheit until the curly edges start to turn brown and crispy.
  5. Enjoy. I store in a closed container for a quick tasty way to enjoy a serving of vegetables. WARNING! These crunchy veggies are addictive.
  6. Experiment by substituting the kale with other fresh green leafy vegetables such as spinach, turnip greens or seaweed.
Kroger fruit deals
-Dark red cherries, $3.99/lb ( great for gout or inflammation; amazingly sweet and tasty)
-Naval oranges 2/$1-
Anjou or Bartlett pears $1-1.39/lb
-Kroger brand canned sliced pears or sliced peaches in 100% pear juice $1 each ( until 1/21/12)
Don’t forget to share this good news with others.

 1.  Here are some great tools to use for meal ideas, going vegan ideas or simply some realistic ways to incorporate more vegetarian meals in your life this year. Also check out the downloadable brochure on School Lunch vegetarian ideas for kid lunch ideas.
http://www.pcrm.org/health/diets/vsk/vegetarian-starter-kit

2. I just discovered a great vegetarian meal idea for the kid’s lunches. Sandwiches made with vegetarian bologna from Yves or Lightlife Foods. Find these in the refrigerated produce section of your local Food Lion, Harris-Teeter, Kroger or Wal-mart SuperCenter or Super Target stores. I love the Yves bologna as it is only ~$3 at Wal-Mart or Whole Foods. Check out http://www.yvesveggie.com for some recipe ideas sure to please everyone.

3.  $2 and $1 off any Spectrum oils and $1 off any Spectrum Essentials product. Go for the Organic shortening made with 100% palm fruit oil for trans fat free baking. It is vegan too. The flax seed oil makes a great hair and skin moisturizer. The ground flax seed is a great source of heart healthy omega- fatty acids and can be used to make “flax eggs”, a great alternative to eggs in recipes that really does work. [You know I tried it on my banana bread-Yummy] One egg =1 tablespoon ground flax seed plus 3 tablespoons water.
